Once upon a time, there was a passionate dreamer who wanted to create a unique, unconventional, revolutionary venue. It was 1994 when Guido Lembo turned his greatest dream into reality and switched on the lights at Taverna Anema e Core for the very first time.
The entertainment hub of the island of Capri, situated halfway between the luxury shopping street and the charming historic centre, just a stone’s throw from the Piazzetta, Anema e Core is much more than just a tavern, a bar or a nightclub.
It is the island’s beating heart: the place where the night comes alive, voices mingle, and Capri has been recognisable for over thirty years.
Guido Lembo
Born in Capri into a family of fishermen, Guido Lembo spent his childhood between the sea and songs: by the age of four, he was already setting sail at dawn with his father on the little fishing boat Zazà, humming Neapolitan tunes.
At the age of sixteen, he left the island to gain experience in Europe and the United States, driven by his love of music and a desire to see the world. On his return to Capri, he began his career as a singer in local taverns, including the famous Guarracino, where he honed a unique style and won over the audience. In 1994, he opened the Taverna Anema e Core, which was destined to become a popular haunt for those seeking music, fun and a friendly atmosphere.
With his voice and his energy, Guido transformed the nights on Capri, turning every evening into an experience filled with music, laughter and emotion. The stage was graced by holidaymakers, tourists, international stars, artists, sports stars, entrepreneurs and celebrities, all united by a desire to have fun and experience genuine magic, free from formality. A tradition that continues.
Guido’s musical legacy lives on today through his son Gianluigi, whose repertoire blends classical and modern styles, lending the Taverna an international flavour whilst keeping alive the magic created by his father.
Gianluigi Lembo
With passion and charisma, Gianluigi Lembo has taken up the baton from his father, ensuring the continuity of a story that is part of the very soul of Capri. Today, it is the voice of Anema e Core, a venue that epitomises Capri’s nightlife, where tradition meets the energy of the present.
A fixture at the tavern for over ten years, he has witnessed the venue’s evolution since he was a child, performing alongside his father in evening duets for almost twenty years. Today, with his Anema e Core Band – comprising eight eclectic musicians – he hosts every evening with wit, light-heartedness and charm, winning over an ever-growing audience of young people, enthusiasts of Capri’s ‘dolce vita’ and international guests.
His show is performed entirely live, with a repertoire that blends tradition, modernity and moments of improvisation. Constant interaction and a distinctive sound make every night different.
Gianluigi is not merely the guardian of a precious legacy: he is the driving force behind a new chapter for Anema e Core, capable of revitalising its musical style and attracting a new generation of guests, whilst preserving the venue’s authenticity.
With his energy and natural flair, he now stands at the crossroads between Guido’s legacy and the tavern’s future.
